Shopping the Suburbs

I'm back home in Illinois, and I have covered a lot of antique ground in the few short days I have been here! I'm taking a break from my shopping excursions to post about the places Rachel and I visited in the Chicago suburbs. She has a passion for salvaged stuff as much as I do, so it is great to shop with her. We both found some goodies at the Volo Antique Mall in Volo, IL. That place was a maze and was probably the biggest antique mall I have ever seen. There were three buildings and multiple levels with nooks and crannies overflowing with junk.

The first booth at which I looked was FILLED with awesome Ball jars - you know I am a sucker for those!  I knew it would be a good shopping day when I found what I was looking for at first glance.
(Michelle, I found some for you!)

The place was jam-packed with lots of smalls; not too many spaces created vignettes, but places like this are where you can hunt for some good bargains!

This booth definitely had a fun retro theme going on!

You never know what you will find...

On Day 2, Rachel took me to her favorite places, which I have grown to love as well - Tattered Tiques and Junk Warehouse in Barrington. Tattered Tiques is a store where you can find the goods of lots of talented designers including Urban Farmgirl and Maple and Magnolia.

I've only been here in the winter, so it was fun to shop with the huge garage door up and in the open air!

Across the way from Tattered Tiques is the Junk Warehouse. Turns out this place is closing their doors at the end of the month, so they were having a 40% sale. I was shopping conservatively until I heard that! Rachel and I both bought some bigger pieces and we weren't sure we could fit it all in the back of her suburban, but we managed!

I bought this locker set - not sure when it will make it back to Texas!

Enjoying a cocktail after a hard day of shopping; thank you to my wonderful hostess!

Stay tuned for more updates on my shopping in 'downstate' Illinois - what a wonderful trip it has been so far! Looking forward to celebrating Father's Day with my Dad and his side of the family tomorrow here on the farm.

Have a great rest of the weekend!

  2. I went antiquing in LA today, I'm sure due to your inspiration! Found a couple cute things small enough to take home on the plane. :)
