Marburger Farm's Tent A

The Marburger Farm Antique Show has come and gone for Spring 2013. This was my second trip to Marburger, and I navigated the farm quite a bit better this time. I will certainly be more prepared for my third show, as I have figured out which entrance to use, where to park, and which tents to visit first. 

It rained for most of my drive there, making the trip longer than usual. Since the forecast called for strong storms later in the day, I made a quick stop at HEB in Elgin to get a quality umbrella, as the crazy wind we had in a previous storm broke all the metal spokes in my old umbrella. Fortunately, it wasn't raining at Marburger! I parked in the same field I did last time, the one on the Round Top side, but I think the line was much shorter on the Warrenton side. I headed to the tents, ready to check in for my VIB (Very Important Blogger) swag bag and say hi to Theresa in Tent A. I wandered through Tent F, walked over to Tent E, up through Tent G, spotted Tent I, and wondered what kind of lettering this place used - nothing was in alphabetical order! Where was Tent A?!

I finally found Tent A and was excited to remember that this was one of my favorite places to shop last fall. This tent is full of talent! I will showcase my favorite vendors from Tent A in this post.

They come all the way from New York for this show twice a year!

 

I LOVE old umbrellas. These were in good shape, but no match for the storms that would hit later.

Next to Judy's space are the ever-talented Linda and Ludmil of Willow Nest. Since they've moved to California, I miss seeing their impressive displays.

The final vendor I'll showcase is Sweet Pea Home from Winter Park, FL.

I don't remember seeing this vendor before, but I quickly fell in love; look at that chandelier - who knew you could marry industry and romance?

Though I don't like that framed taranchula one bit! I shudder at the sight. 

I am glad to say I never had to use my new umbrella while at the farm, but I would have been ready if it had rained - there was even a poncho in my Blogger Swag Bag! What a wonderful opportunity Marburger gives through the VIB program; I had a great time and came home with several new goodies. It was a Good Friday at Zapp Hall

Good Friday was GREAT! I got to spend it with hundreds (thousands?) of fellow shoppers in Warrenton for the first 'official' day of Antique Week. I have been countless times, and three times in the last nine days, but never have I seen it as crowded as it was on Friday. The holiday brought out lots of junk hunters, but I didn't let the crowds deter my desire for loot!

I hit the Bar W fields the previous Sunday, so I ventured on to Zapp Hall to wander the wonders that its dealers provide. They did not disappoint! Zapp is my absolute favorite place for inspiration and eye candy, as well as the place for food, drink, live music, and people watching. I actually did none of the latter because I was too busy taking pictures to stand in line for food or sit to eat. The lines were LONG...

A prominent feature of the Zapp show this year is attire - Boho chic, gypsy soul, modern Americana, and vagabond vintage looks proliferate the cattle fields surrounding Zapp Hall. I can hardly believe that I bought as many items of clothing as I did junk! (Don't worry, Andrew - I bought a total of five things, junk and clothes.) The first three vendors are Texas-born and women-run.

One small claim to retail fame

I was shopping with my Mother-in Law yesterday; we were killing time while our husbands played a round of indoor virtual golf. I'm all for riding around in the cart on a pretty day, but sitting inside watching men play a giant video game version of golf wasn't all that entertaining. So, we walked around the nice shops at the Domain for a bit. We hit the usual stores, and then I noticed a really cool display window with fun whimsical clothing, and did a double take at this apparently new store. Just by the looks of the displays and beautiful clothing and accessories, I figured this place would be uber expensive. I told her I would just check the price to see if it is even worth browsing; I was shocked to see reasonable prices on the tags of Bohemian and vintage-style romantic pieces. Think Anthropologie style with a pricepoint somewhere between Antro and Forever 21. Sounds good, right!?

We explored the store and found the jewelry racks - fun chunky necklaces and awesome leather cuff bracelets adorned a table. 

I was admiring the cuffs when all of a sudden I noticed this:

Not the signage, but the old door knob converted to a frame. Wait a second - I have door knobs just like these at my booth! I wonder if they got them at the antique mall?! Sadly I can't claim creative genius or even the assembly work on this awesome repurposed item, but I can claim knowing a great item when I see one! My good friend Karen, for whom I worked at the Country Living show last May, is the designer of these. I bought a couple dozen from her and they have been great sellers at the booth. I love them for pictures and business cards. Here it is showcasing a line carried by this new boutique. 

I get giddy with excitement thinking that someone from this adorable store had not only visited my booth, but purchased something from Barn Chic. I started asking the girls at the counter about the store. Altar'd State is the name of this trendy new store, and the Austin location is the 21st shop for the brand. Based in Knoxville, TN, the other locations are mainly in the Southeast. The store's motto is 'fashion focused; cause motivated.' Every Monday is "Mission Monday," where they donate 10% of their net profits to a local charity. Already I am liking this store - cute clothing, reasonable prices, community-conscious, AND vintage decor! 

I end up buying a necklace, and on our way out, my MIL spots a fun dress. I walk around the table to look at it, and my foot bumps into something under the table. I look down, only to see three suitcases that came directly out of my booth less than two weeks ago! I'd like to say I played it cool, but I was nearly hysterical and took lots of terrible phone photos as if I just spotted a celebrity.

I always love knowing what becomes of the goods I sell after they leave my space, but running into them (quite literally!) while out shopping in a chic new store at my favorite outdoor mall was the ultimate discovery. 

I plan to become a frequent shopper at Altar'd State; maybe we could set up a barter to trade junk for attire?!
