About Me

Hello, and welcome to Barn Chic Antiques! From country chic to industrial salvage, I love rusty remnants of the past! Whether these treasures are upcycled, repurposed, or simply reused, forlorn pieces are what add character to modern decorating.

Barn Chic started out as a small booth at the Austin Antique Mall in April 2011. A year and a half later, I did my first show at Rusted Gingham's Barn Sale and was hooked. I now travel to vintage shows around the state of Texas. The style of Barn Chic has since expanded beyond home decor with the launch of barnchicboutique.com in November 2013; the online boutique features farm to market style with vintage-inspired clothing and accessories for both ladies and babies.

I am originally from Heyworth, IL, a tiny farm town which is home to some of the richest soil in the world. I grew up on a sheep farm surrounded by corn fields and spent my summers showing lambs at county and state fairs. Though I live the city life now, my antiquing adventures helped me reconnect to my country roots as I spent my weekends and summers traveling to small towns throughout central Texas hunting for farmhouse finds.
I enjoy writing about my picking stories as well as my attempts at shabby decor; I love to showcase creative vignettes from which I find inspiration and the talented designers behind those scenes at shops and shows throughout Texas and the Midwest. You can also follow my antiquing adventures on Facebook.

Now that I have a little one, my shopping excursions are few and far between, but I do love providing vintage-inspired clothing and accessories through the barnchicboutique.com website. Check out the site and use discount code BLOGREADER for an additional 15% off your total purchase!

  1. Enjoyed reading "About Me" and also highlight from Curious Boys. Hope the school year is going well. Will you be at Rusted Gingham Barn Sale? Betsy will be busy at Warrenton in Zapp area, while I will be with hubby at Scott White during surgery & recovery. Hope to see you soon. Thanks for coming by the Attic in Seguin. 2. I live in west-central IL, and know where Heyworth is located. It's the small town, on the way to Champaign, to see grandchildren at U. of IL...that you'd better slow down right away or you'll get a ticket. It's well-known!!! I'd like to know what the name is, of the middle school in Austin where you teach. And in what area do you live in Austin. I have a son & daughter-in-law who live & teach there, too. Very interesting. Enjoy reading about you & all your ideas. Thanks...Linda

  3. I am interested in how you decided to show and sell your items. How did you come upon the Mall idea. I would love to sell some of my repurposed items but am not really sure what direction to go or where to sell them. Any ideas? Thanks! Robin
