A little lighter

As much as I like buying junk, I LOVE getting rid of it! The garage sale this weekend was a success - it was a ton of work, but so worth it; lots of my unused stuff has found new homes and I earned twice as much this year as I did last year! Special thanks to Andrew for stringing up three clothing rods so I could hang all my clothes. It's funny that out of all the antique/vintage goods I had for sale, the items that really drove my sales were clothes...most all of my larger items are still filling the garage, but my closets are more spacious and I fill lighter having gotten rid of so much stuff.

Shoppers came in waves - lots at the beginning (but thankfully no one was waiting for me to open the garage door this year - last year, I opened to door at 6:45am to set up for the 8:00am start, and there was a woman waiting there...who proceeded to come in, touch everything, ask questions about each item, and buy nothing while I was hauling things out to the driveway!), some in the middle, and a few at the end. I was excited to see a few cars drop by even when I was packing up; one of those shoppers was a fellow vendor at the Austin Antique Mall, Sarah. I think I have mentioned her in another blog - she is the original Sarah, as she has been a vendor for two years, and to distinguish between the two of us, the staff at the mall refer to me as 'the blonde Sarah.' I am sure I have earned and lived up to that description over the last year!

Anyway, I was thrilled when Sarah bought a few things and enjoyed talking shop with her. I love her style and have admired her space for the past year and a half;  she describes her style as industrial and schoolhouse, which is a term I hadn't yet heard but is absolutely perfect - think old biology diagrams, vintage child mannequins, maps for history class, globes, library card catalog drawers, school chairs, locker baskets, etc. Here are a few pictures from her booth to give you an even better idea:

You can see lots of her great items on her Etsy page and you can of course visit her booth at the Austin Antique Mall. I look forward to seeing how she incorporates the goods she found in my garage!

I am also excited to announce that I finally took the plunge and created a Facebook page for Barn Chic Antiques. I would love it if you would 'like' it!

I am heading to the Midwest for some fun times with friends and family - I hope to showcase a few of my favorites shopping stops in the Land of Lincoln soon. And since I have some additional storage room now, I might have to squeeze a few things into my luggage on the way back!

Hope your week is still chic!
~Sarah

  1. It's funny how we just swap things. The mannequin I originally owned and sold to Melanie of Seed Box. Then I guess Sarah bought it from her? Sarah is a great customer of mine. Glad you sold lots now you have more spending money!
